IS THE SYSTEM RIGGED?

public_citizen_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgLucas,

Corporate lobbyists are tickled pink. Their Big Business bosses expect to buy the upcoming elections with a flood of corporate cash. They see a new America emerging - a government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations - and they know it will make them rich.

Are you up for disappointing some corporate lobbyists?

The first step: Tell your representative to support the Fair Elections Now Act (H.R. 1826).

This bipartisan bill would break the stranglehold corporate and special interest money has over Congress by enabling candidates to run viable campaigns without big-money contributions.

The current system is broken, if not rigged. Corporate lobbyists direct millions of dollars to elect candidates who will prioritize the interests of Big Business - and to defeat those who refuse. Again and again, corporations win. The people lose.

Let's topple the rigged system.

Go to http://www.citizen.org/supportfairelectionsnow and tell your representative to support the bill.

The Fair Elections Now Act is one of several bills we're pushing to limit corporate interference with our democracy.

In the coming days and weeks, we'll need your help to push for passage of the DISCLOSE Act (which would require groups that run election ads to disclose who funds them) and the Shareholder Protection Act (which would give shareholders a say on whether and how corporations spend their money on politics).

You'll also hear more from us in the near future about our growing campaign to urge congressional candidates to work to undo the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United v. FEC, which allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on elections. Stay tuned for opportunities to engage in grassroots action!

Let's show the corporate lobbyists that we the people won't take this assault on our democracy. Tell your member of Congress to support the Fair Elections Now Act.

Thanks for all you do.
