Dear Friend,
I am writing to ask you to join me in voting for Kathleen Rice for Attorney General on Tuesday, September 14. Over the past several months, I have had the privilege of getting to know Kathleen on both a personal and professional level and believe she is the best candidate for the position.
Kathleen has a solid record as the first female District Attorney in Nassau County, and has transformed the office tremendously by: promoting and appointing more female managers, creating a hate-crimes unit that has been a crusading force against all hate crimes including those against the LGBT community, and creating a bureau to investigate animal abuse (for a pet owner like myself, this is an important concern) among other reforms.
In addition, Kathleen is a progressive woman who will be the formidable foe that is needed in November to beat the Republican candidate for AG. In fact, she is the only candidate with a record of beating an incumbent Republican in a conservative district.
While Kathleen has not received some of the coveted endorsements that have gone to her opponents, I can tell you from experience as a former candidate that endorsements are not the only barometer with which to measure the qualifications of a candidate. There is experience, personal background and professional achievements -- all of which I ask you to weigh in considering Kathleen's candidacy.
In addition, Kathleen does have endorsements that are very prominent and influential, including the Retail, Wholesale, Department Store Union (the first progressive union to endorse Rice), Gloria Steinem, Elizabeth Holtzman, NYC Comptroller John Liu, EMILY's List, the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, and others.
I appreciate your taking the time to review and consider Kathleen Rice's record before making the important decision of who to support this Tuesday. The future of New York State is at stake.
Thanks, Lynn Schulman
