Dear Colleagues, I have been in the business for 30 years and I am asking you for a favor. Tomorrow is Primary Day and if you are a Democrat, I am asking you to Vote for an old friend of mine, Sean Coffey for Attorney General. I have known Sean for over 20 years and he is one of the finest, most ethical people I have ever known. He is a former federal prosecutor in the Southern District who went on to become one of the most successful attorneys in this country. New York State would be blessed to have him serve. Sean came from humble beginnings. He is the son of poor Irish immigrants. His father had a fourth grade education and he went on to raise seven children--all college graduates. Sean is a graduate of Annapolis. He served 30 years in the Navy including the reserves. He attended night school at Georgetown Law, while serving as military aide to then Vice President George H.W. Bush. Sean's career as an attorney in private practice has been highly successful fighting corporate fraud. He has recovered billions for victims and won praise for achieving significant corporate governance improvements. Sean was the lead attorney in the WorldCom securities case representing thousands of investors, including the New York State Common Retirement Fund. His team recovered over $6 billion and, in a historic first, required all outside directors and key wrongdoers to contribute from their personal funds. Sean also represented thousands of retired investors in an audit malpractice case against Arthur Andersen in the Baptist Foundation of Arizona case. Sean led the team that recovered a $217 million settlement, the largest amount ever paid by Andersen. Sean is not a political insider or an Albany politician. He owes no one.
