COMMIT TO A CURE

amfar.gifEarlier this year, amfAR launched an exciting new research initiative, ARCHE , which brings together some of the world's leading AIDS researchers to discuss ways to eradicate HIV from the body--to find a cure for AIDS.

ARCHE consists of four research teams, each studying different aspects of finding a cure.  These teams will communicate often and at times work together directly. In fact, at the first ARCHE meeting this summer, the researchers immediately found ways to cooperate.

But we need your help to make it happenTo develop new collaborative projects, the ARCHE researchers require additional fundingDonate now to help amfAR support this innovative work, which may lead us to a cure:

  • Teams from Baltimore and San Francisco would like to develop a clinical trial to test an existing drug compound--already approved to treat a condition unrelated to HIV--that has been shown in a test tube to make HIV more vulnerable to eradication.
  • A Swedish team wants to study bone marrow samples of HIV-positive individuals collected a decade ago by the San Francisco team, samples that could shed new light on the locations in the body where HIV persists despite treatment.
  • The Baltimore team hopes to use sophisticated technology to test drug compounds that the Swedish team believes may help address the problem of viral reservoirs--areas in the body where HIV can hide from currently available treatments.
    .

This is exactly the type of teamwork we need to keep HIV/AIDS research moving forward!

This collaborative approach can produce results that exceed what can be done by the individual laboratories.
.
Please support amfAR's efforts to advance innovative research projects, such as ARCHE, which could put a cure within our reach
.
