Dear Lucas,
Labor Day represents many things to our families, to our state, and to our country. I'm writing to share with you what I will celebrate today in the hopes that you will join me in honoring our nation's labor movement, the true backbone of the American Dream.

I'm the granddaughter of an Irish immigrant who came to our country alone as a teenager with $20 in his pocket. He built a business as a bricklayer and through hard work and advancing labor protections, it became possible for him to prosper and for our family to grow.
Generations later, I work hard to honor his sacrifice and to pay tribute to the men and women who make up our nation's working class, and to those who have fought for the economic justice that defines our country.
I am running for attorney general to honor my grandfather and to protect the workforce that keeps our communities vibrant, our families protected and our country more diverse and prosperous than any other in the world.
While protections have progressed and viewpoints have enlightened, New York workers still face exploitation and danger and they are still forced to sacrifice so that the rest of our families can prosper.
The attorney general can be the sheriff of a lot of things important to New York families, but none of his or her responsibilities are more important than protecting New York's working class.
I will never leave vulnerable the hard-working men and women of our state. Not today as your district attorney, and not next year as your attorney general. That's a promise.
It is with profound gratitude to the men and women who have built, protected and cared for our communities that I wish you and your family a very special Labor Day.
Best, Kathleen PS -- Primary Day is Sept. 14 -- don't forget to vote, and tell your friends.
