A FEW VOTES SHORT

kathleen_rice_campaign_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgDear Lucas,

Thank you.

After months of campaigning -- after all the picnics, press conferences, TV commercials and fundraisers -- the primary election season has come to an end. I want to thank you for your support and hard work throughout this campaign.

We ran an excellent campaign together, talking about issues that matter to the people of New York, like making state government work for us, shielding consumers from unscrupulous businesses and protecting families from white collar and violent crime. Our grassroots support was unrivaled in this race. We inspired thousands of regular New Yorkers to get involved in the civic process.

Unfortunately, we came up a few votes short of a victory last night, and early this morning I called Eric Schneiderman to congratulate him on his victory.

I'm fortunate to have a job I love. This morning, I arrived at the district attorney's office with more energy and pride than ever. I'm excited to continue our work on progressive, innovative solutions to combat our county's most serious challenges.

I've had an exciting and informative experience running for statewide office, but I love the job I have as a district attorney, and am continuing my work there with more energy and pride than ever.

I would not have gotten this far without my family, friends and supporters, and I thank you all, from the bottom of my heart for everything you've done for me.

I hope that you join me in drawing inspiration from this experience, in waking up today and every day after with the conviction that our engagement in democracy can only lead to better government, greater prosperity and safer communities.

I will never forget what you've done for this campaign and I will always be proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with you - tomorrow, or any day in the future.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Signature
