Dear Friends,
The holiday season is a time for celebrating with family and loved ones, but it is also a time to be thankful for what we have and represents an opportunity to give to those among us who are less fortunate. During these difficult economic times, many local families are turning to food pantries to help make ends meet. Sadly, since 2008 this demand has grown so much that over 68% of New York food pantries have had to turn people away or ration food for lack of resources.
In an effort to address this growing demand, I will be launching a holiday food drive to collect canned goods and non-perishable items for local food pantries to help provide food for those less fortunate this holiday season.
We will be collecting:
-
100% fruit & vegetable juice (boxed & canned)
-
Baby food & formula
-
Canned & boxed foods (chili, macaroni, soup, stew, etc.)
-
Canned or dried beans & peas (black, lentils, pinto, etc.)
-
Canned fruit (in its own juice)
-
Canned fish & meats (chicken, salmon, tuna, etc.)
-
Cereal
-
Dried fruit (sealed)
-
Powdered milk/Evaporated milk
-
Nuts (sealed)
-
Oatmeal
-
Pasta (sealed)
-
Peanut butter
-
Rice
-
And any other non-perishable food or canned good item
Food collected from the Holiday Food Drive will go directly to local food pantries throughout the district. Any donation, big or small, will be greatly appreciated. The Holiday Food Drive will officially kick off today and donations can be dropped off at my District Office on 47-01 Queens Blvd. Suite 205 Sunnyside, NY 11104 (Monday-Friday) until Friday, December 10th.
To maximize our efforts we've teamed up with the Queens Library and for your convenience donations can also be dropped off at any of the following neighborhood libraries:
Long Island City 37-44 21st Street (718) 752 - 3700 |
Broadway 40-20 Broadway (718) 721 - 2462 |
Sunnyside 43-06 Greenpoint Ave. (718) 784 - 3033 |
Court Square 25-01 Jackson Ave. (718) 937 - 2790 |
Woodside 54-22 Skillman Ave. (718) 429 - 4700 |
|
Any donation made will help bring much needed food to those families and individuals struggling in this economy. Thank you in advance for helping ensure that economic hardship doesn't lead to hunger in our community.
Sincerely,
Jimmy Van Bramer
Council Member, District 26
