Late last week, Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer sent a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood proposing that the $3 billion previously allocated to the now-cancelled ARC Trans-Hudson Tunnel project be re-appropriated for other worthy infrastructure and transportation projects in the region, including 2nd Avenue Subway, East Side Access project and the Fulton Street Transit Hub.
Statement from Borough President Stringer:
"Governor Christie's job-killing decision to put an end to the Access to the Region's Core (ARC) tunnel creates a new opportunity for other important infrastructure projects, including the Second Avenue Subway, the East Side Access project, the Fulton Street Transit Hub and Moynihan Station. In a letter that I sent today to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, I am urging the Obama Administration to keep these transportation infrastructure funds in the region in order to guarantee needed upgrades to our infrastructure and create good jobs for our ailing construction industry."
"If Governor Christie is too short-sighted to see the benefits of investing in our region's infrastructure, we in New York would be happy to help him see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let's not waste any more time - put the ARC funds to work in New York."
