Note: The organization MANA, a National Latino Organization, has been in DC Superior Court this past year over charges regarding improprieties in the election of their current Board of Directors and other governance issues. We are happy to be able to report that this dispute has been resolved and the organization is reorganizing itself to ensure the return of its "health and viability." Message to all MANA Members
Dear MANA Members,
We are pleased to announce that the dispute regarding the governance of MANA has been resolved. At a mediation on September 28, 2010, the parties in the case filed in the D.C. Superior Court came to a resolution that will ensure the health and viability of the organization.
The agreement includes:
* Independent financial audit of MANA;
* President/CEO, Alma Morales Riojas, will work with the interim board regarding budget items and any new proposals;
* Appointment of interim neutral Chair until elections are held;
* Interim board members will be Ronnie Padilla, Grace Ramos, Mary Ramirez, Clara Padilla- Andrews, Lidia Martinez, Mary Estrada, Victoria Duran and Cindy Jimenez;
* Election to be conducted at end of 2010 will be overseen by independent third party agreed to by the parties;
* Counsel will jointly assist MANA in revising its bylaws and governance policies subject to Board and membership approval as applicable;
* Chapters will receive letters soliciting payment of dues for eligibility to vote in national election
