New York Communities for Change is a coalition of working families fighting for social and economic justice throughout the city and state. Through direct action, legislative advocacy, and community organizing, New York Communities for Change's members work to empower those who have historically been locked out of our democratic system.
As you may know, ACORN worked in New York's low and moderate income communities for over two decades. While the new organization is entirely independent from ACORN, New York Communities for Change will build on a proud legacy of activism, including: preserving and expanding affordable housing, ensuring parental input in education decisions such as school closures, holding Wall Street accountable through real financial reform, preventing wage and hour violations, and fighting bad development decisions - like the current NYCC campaign to keep Walmart out of Brooklyn.
The 2010 election will feature some key statewide races where turnout from the progressive base will be crucial. NYCC members and organizers have long-established ties in these critical neighborhoods, and need your help building an operation that will ensure New York has effective, progressive leadership that is responsive to the needs of all communities.
Please join us to learn about NYCC's plans for 2010 and beyond on Tuesday, May 25th, from 8:00 - 9:30 am at Campanile Restaurant, 30 E. 29th Street (between Madison and Park Avenue South).
