SIDA GUNNING FOR MCMAHON?

Got this e-mail from SIDA earlier this morning:

SIDA_Page_1.jpgThere were a total of six votes, four related to agreeing with the Senate bill and two related to the reconciliation bill.

The first three votes were procedural votes to bring the Senate Bill that passed in December to the House floor for a vote. Congressman McMahon voted Nay on all three of these procedural votes.

Congressman McMahon then voted against the Senate bill. He was only one of thirty four Democrats who voted against the bill.

When President Obama signs the "Senate" bill it becomes law. Many House Democrats are not happy with the Senate bill so they drafted changes which are contained in the Reconciliation bill (A reconciliation bill can only change budget-related issues, which is why the President had to issue an Executive Order on abortion funding to get Congressman Stupek and his group to support the bill)

Congressman McMahon then voted with the Democrats not to recommit the Reconciliation bill. If the recommit vote passed, the reconciliation bill would have had to be sent back to Committee.

The Reconciliation bill now goes to the Senate. If the Senate passes the bill without any changes, it will go to President Obama. After the President signs the bill, the "Senate bill" is amended. Only a majority is needed to pass a reconciliation bill. The Republicans will attempt to make changes to the bill arguing that some of the changes contained in the reconciliation bill are not "budget" related. Any change would send the bill back to the House to be voted on again.
