ANGELO NEEDS OUR HELP

nilp_national_institute_latino_policy_nyrebog_com_.jpg angelo_falcon_image_nyreblog_com_.jpgWith the 2010 Census now upon us, the health insurance reform bill still in gestation, a major national debate on immigration on the horizon, and major media consolidation issues arising from the proposed Comcast-NBC merger, we need your help as a part of The NiLP Network to make sure that we can adequately address these and the many other issues facing the Latino community today.

Through The NiLP Network we have sought to bring you updates on underreported policy and political developments impacting on Latinos, whether it is bringing you the latest data on Latino unemployment rates, the problems raised by the Government of Puerto Rico voiding their birth certificates, or informing you of important events like Monday's immigration reform march on Washington, DC.

From time to time, instead of asking for membership dues we ask our network to make donations to support of the work of the National Institute for Latino Policy (NiLP).

We are a modest operation but through our research, advocacy and networking we are having a significant impact on the framing of critical issues and mobilizing the Latino community on a variety of policy issues. Our work behind the scenes in promoting Latino participation in the 2010 Census over the last three years through our Latino Census Network, which has provided critical information to Latino advocates and affected how the Census Bureau addresses Latino concerns, is but one example.

Everywhere I go throughout the country, people come up to let me know that "I get your emails!" and that they find them helpful in their work in the Latino community. Some even tell me that they should be sending us a donation to support this work.

Well, please do!

There are two ways to make a donation to NiLP.

One way is online, which is totally safe and secure. You can do so by clicking here . Besides making a one-shot contribution, you can join other NiLP supporters, who have arranged to make more painless monthly contributions through their credit cards of, for example, $25 a month, which totals $300 a year.

The other way is to send us a check or money order for $50, $100, $1,000, or whatever you can afford, made out to the "National Institute for Latino Policy" and mail it to:

National Institute for Latino Policy

101 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 313

Attn: Angelo Falcón

You could also leverage your contribution if your employer has a matching gift program. One person made a $1,000 donation, which she turned into a $4,000 contribution through her employer's matching gifts program. Check with your company's human resources department about this option.

And so, that's our pitch! We can sure use your help because it allows us to do more and, as important, it enhances our ability to act independently on behalf of Latino community issues.

As one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States representing in so many ways the future of the United States, Latinos need to be more bold and imaginative in the way we advocate for greater opportunities for our people and a more open society for all. We hope you can help us promote these qualities as 2010 presents us with some of the greatest challenges we face as a community. ¡Siempre Pa'lante!

Sincerely,

Angelo Falcón
