P.S. 250 Celebrates Culmination of School Residency Initiative with Performance from Philharmonic Musicians
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will perform student compositions with Brooklyn Philharmonic musicians at P.S. 250 in Williamsburg and will recognize the students' compositions, Brooklyn Philharmonic Education Programs, and School Residency Initiative lead sponsor, National Grid Foundation.
As participants in the Brooklyn Philharmonic's School Residency Initiative, six classes of 3rd grade students from P.S. 250 wrote musical compositions under the guidance of Brooklyn Philharmonic Teaching Artist, Angelica Negron. Over a period of 12 weeks, Ms. Negron and students composed six short pieces inspired by themes and stories from other academic subjects.
The June 3 event marks the culmination of their residency with a special performance of their compositions by the Brooklyn Philharmonic School Residency Quartet. Nine Brooklyn schools and over 700 students created music in the School Residency Initiative this season.
