Dear Lucas,
With the Gulf Coast in crisis, who sided with BP? Michele Bachmann.
Putting big business before American families, Bachmann went to bat for BP this week, saying the company shouldn't be "fleeced" by the government and claiming mandated relief funds are just a "redistribution of wealth." That's right -- Democrats, in Bachmann's mind, are the ones spinning this crisis to make a political point.
But she didn't stop there. Bachmann said President Obama is guilty of extortion, a federal felony.
Here's the kicker: Bachmann's not alone. She's joined by a line-up of likeminded GOPers eager to use divisive political games and incendiary language to get what they want.
This is the moment when races are being defined, and if we don't act now, we won't have the resources to support our pro-choice Democratic women and win this fall. We can counter the right-wing -- but only with your help.
Contribute to EMILY's List to stop the GOP propaganda from Bachmann and her right-wing allies and help us mobilize the force that will help us win this fall: women voters.
While Bachmann's outrageous claims put her in a class all her own, there's a cadre of GOP women bent on using right-wing propaganda to boost their names and fill their campaign coffers.
It's Carly Fiorina saying Sen. Barbara Boxer is more focused on "the weather" than fighting terrorism. And Sharron Angle in Nevada advocating that citizens arm themselves and rise up if "this Congress keeps going the way it is." And Sarah Palin -- who just yesterday set her sights on yet another pro-choice Democratic woman -- pushing her "drill, baby, drill" rhetoric in the wake of the Gulf Coast's current crisis.
Their antics fire up the fringe and lead to ugly, hateful debate that does anything but help America.
But, I have to admit, they fire me up, too. They make me more determined than ever to elect our pro-choice Democratic women like Patty Murray, Dina Titus, and Tarryl Clark, who's taking on Bachmann in Minnesota. These women are fighting every day for American women and families, are willing to take tough votes to do what's right, and understand that when it comes to priorities -- big business and special interests should never come first.
Please contribute today to help EMILY's List fully fund our WOMEN VOTE! program, which will get women voters to the polls to counter right-wing antics and help Democrats win!
Thank you for all you're doing to respond to outrageous Republican tactics and make sure our country stays focused on moving forward.
Take care,
Stephanie Schriock
