AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL ENDS IN A DECADE

usa_gov_logo_nyreblog_com_.gifBeginning in 2010, as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters™ Program , the United States Mint  will issue 56 quarter-dollar coins. Featured on the reverse side of the coins are designs depicting  national parks and other national sites . A portrait of George Washington will remain on the obverse (heads side) of all of the quarters. The 56 America the Beautiful Quarters will be issued in the order the selected site was first established as a national site. A new quarter will be introduced approximately every 10 weeks for 11 years.

The first coin in the series, which honors Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, was released into circulation on April 19, 2010. It will be followed by quarters honoring Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming (June); Yosemite National Park in California (July); Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona (September); and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon (November).

In addition to the coins for circulation, the United States Mint will produce collectable items including proof sets, silver proof sets, a five ounce silver bullion coin, coin bags, and coin rolls for each quarter.
