As supporters of Gustavo Rivera and financial contributors to his campaign we are writing to you today to urge you to join us in support of his candidacy.
Last year, State Senator Pedro Espada switched his allegiance to the Republican side of the aisle in order to bargain for a leadership position and patronage to come back to the Democrats -- and he got away with it. He has used his position to get state funding for a charitable venture that employs himself and his family. He does not live in his Bronx district and he fails to file required campaign financial reports. He is a total embarrassment.Democratic Party leaders have had enough of Pedro Espada. Haven't you?
The New York State Democratic Party wants to remove Espada from the Democratic Party rolls which could mean a long and arduous legal battle. The Bronx County Democratic Committee Chair, Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz, noted that the best way to oust Espada is by defeating him in the primary.
The best prepared and strongest candidate against Espada is Gustavo Rivera. He is what the Daily News refers to as "a new breed of candidate." Young, energetic and smart, he has been a leader in politics for over a decade while maintaining a solid sense of integrity and always putting his community's interests first. He has a solid record of helping to elect progressive and independent candidates to office and supporting good government. AM New York called him one of "Five Influential Puerto Ricans Creating a Buzz."

Pedro Espada needs to be defeated in the upcoming primary election and the best candidate to do that is Gustavo Rivera.
