With thousands of new veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan, it is now more important than ever that we have Representatives in Congress who understand the importance of standing up for those who served.
The men and women who sign up to defend our homes and our freedoms don't do it because they're expecting a reward; they do it because they believe in our country, and they are willing to put their lives on the line to protect our way of life.
In return, we have a sacred duty to care for them after they return home. But unfortunately, too often and for too long, we have not fulfilled our duty to our veterans.
When I am elected, I will fight to cut down the backlog at the Department of Veterans Affairs, I will work to expand health and education benefits for all our servicemembers and veterans, and I will make it my top priority to guarantee that every veteran affected by PTSD or TBI gets the care they need.
