James G. Van Bramer District 26 - Council Member - Democrat
Dear Neighbors:
As many of you know, I recently held a press conference with Speaker Quinn and Assembly Member Nolan regarding disruptions to the 7 subway line. While this brought much needed attention to the issue, my efforts did not stop there. Following the press conference I held a meeting in my District Office with representatives from the MTA to discuss how we can mitigate the impacts of these disruptions for small businesses, cultural institutions, and those trying to get in and out of Manhattan, and how we can improve communication between the MTA and the community.
I am pleased to announce that I am sponsoring a Town Hall meeting in Long Island City at Manducati's Rustica Restaurant, 4635 Vernon Blvd, on Wednesday, February 17th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to speak directly with members of the MTA and my staff on all issues concerning the 7 subway line and transportation issues in general. We will be covering not only what can be done immediately regarding the 7 subway line -- including our demand for shuttle service to and from Grand Central -- but also what can be done in the future to give Western Queens more notice when these service disruptions take place.
To RSVP to the Town Hall, please contact my scheduler, Asher Jacobs, at ajacobs@council.nyc.gov . I am working very hard for the District but I can not do this alone. Please join me at the Town Hall to voice your concerns so we can demonstrate that we are standing together as a community and that the MTA can not continue to do "business as usual". People of Western Queens deserve better service, more reliable service, not less service. These disruptions have been happening every year for two decades and it is time to say "enough is enough".
