Dear Lucas,
New York City Public Advocate, Bill de Blasio, will be coordinating a citywide mobilization this Thursday (February 18) to fight back against the proposed elimination of student metro cards. As part of its latest round of cutbacks, the MTA has cut funding for free student metro cards, a decision that could very well lower school attendance rates and have serious consequences for low income New Yorkers who cannot afford new expenses in these tough economic times.
On Thursday, dozens of volunteers will hand out fliers at over 20 subway stations and other commuter sites across the city to bring awareness to this important issue and encourage New Yorkers to call on the Governor and Legislature to restore student metro cards.
Please join us outside one of the following stations/locations Thursday from 7:00am-9:30am to ask commuters to call our Albany leaders as they negotiate the state budget. You can sign up to help by emailing Jose Davila at jdavila@pubadvocate.nyc.gov or calling 212-669-7200. If you would like to sponsor an additional subway station (or outside a school next week), please let Jose know.
Thanks so much for your support and time.
