YOU DON'T KNOW CASINO JACK

public_citizen_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgLucas,

In 2006, Washington, D.C., was rocked by the biggest political corruption scandal since Watergate. Lobbyist Jack Abramoff was thrown in jail for defrauding Indian tribes of millions of dollars and buying off members of Congress. Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) soon joined Abramoff in prison, then prosecutors secured 16 more felony convictions against Bush administration officials, congressional staffers and lobbyists (and it isn't over yet).

Abramoff's story is being told in the new film, Casino Jack, starring Kevin Spacey. The film opened Friday (December 17) in New York City and Los Angeles.

Corporate lobbyists, conflicts of interest, campaign donations and limitless corporate political spending continue to corrode our democracy. This film provides a unique opportunity for raising awareness about these problems, so we thought you'd like to know about it.

In the coming months, we're expecting activism, screenings and educational forums surrounding this film and efforts to stop corruption. We'll keep you informed about events near you.

Thanks for all you do,
