Dear Lucas,
I wanted to make sure you saw yesterday's front-page story in the New York
Daily News on the effort to ensure Senate passage of the James Zadroga
9/11 Health and Compensation Act, a bill I've been championing for
more than six years now. We are closer than ever to the finish line:
the House approved the bill in September with a strong bipartisan
majority, and President Obama has said that he will sign it into law
if it reaches his desk. Fifty-nine Senators have said that they will
support the bill, including one Republican -- and Senators Gillibrand
and Schumer are working to secure the support of one more Republican
Senator, which we need to avoid a filibuster of the bill.
9/11 first responders didn't engage in endless debate before coming to
the aid of our country. The least that 9/11 responders and survivors
deserve is an up-or-down vote to aid them in their time of need.
We will not rest until this patriotic and long-overdue bill becomes
the law of the land.
Sincerely,
Carolyn B. Maloney
