WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?

ZellerForCongress

Dear Lucas,

After years of economic mismanagement, our country is still fighting to get out of our economic crisis: Millions of Americans are out of work, small businesses are struggling, and the deficit is soaring out of control.

One of my opponents, debt collector Tom Reed, has made it clear how he would respond to this crisis: by laying off firefighters, police and teachers in order to keep giving tax cuts to millionaires.

In an interview yesterday, Tom Reed said he opposed the new jobs bill that will make sure that local communities don't have to lay off emergency responders and teachers.

But just last week, Reed said he wants to preserve the Bush tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans - even though it would add $500 billion to our national debt!

We're facing a fiscal crisis. Our country's debt is out of control. But Tom Reed is so committed to protecting tax incentives for outsourcing jobs and giveaways to multimillionaires that he's willing to sacrifice the jobs of policemen, firefighters and teachers.

Leadership means making decisions - and you can tell a lot about a person from the decisions that they make and what they choose to prioritize.

Here's what I believe:

Our first responders are the backbone of our communities. They keep us safe, protect our homes in times of need, and in the event of a terrorist attack or natural disaster, they are our first line of defense.

Investing in education is the only way we will build an economy that competes in the coming decades. Our students are our greatest asset, and if we respond to this fiscal crisis by cutting education, we will be sending the next generation into the world unprepared.

At the same time, we must get our deficit under control so that the next generation is not burdened with tens of thousands of dollars in debt to countries like China - and that means we cannot afford to return to the failed economic policies of George W. Bush. I strongly support preserving and extending tax cuts for middle class families and small businesses, who have borne the brunt of this recession, but we can't afford to keep handing out tax breaks to the top 1% - especially at the cost of cutting police, firefighters and teachers.

Just like leadership means making decisions, elections are about choices. This November, the voters here in the 29th District will have a clear choice between returning to the failed policies of the Bush Administration or fighting to improve our community and our country.

Please help me win this fight by joining our team today and making a contribution . We have built up incredible momentum over the past three months. There are fewer than 90 days to go in this election, and with your support, I know we will win this election and bring the leadership we need to Western New York and the Southern Tier.

Sincerely,

Matt Zeller
Democratic Nominee for Congress
New York's 29th District

As we all learned in 2008, the best way to fight back against the big special interests is with individual contributions from people like you.
