Dear Supporter,

While summer may be two thirds over, we've been keeping busy during these steamy days! I wanted to share with you the news about a local anti-graffiti campaign that I launched today with the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce, CitySolve and local civic and community organizations and leaders to battle graffiti throughout our community.

I was pleased to allocate $30,000 this year towards this important initiative to rid our streets and neighborhoods of graffiti. This program will compliment existing anti-graffiti efforts like those of Woodside on The Move, SUNN and our local precincts, making our fight against graffiti even stronger. The program, which will go into effect tomorrow is a locally driven initiative for Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City, Hunters Point, Dutch Kills, Blissville, Astoria and Maspeth in District 26, which consists of:

  • A comprehensive clean-up of four of the district's most frequently tagged areas:
    • Woodside Avenue between 69th Street and Roosevelt Avenue
    • 47th Avenue between 38th Street and 51st Street
    • Broadway between 38th to 58th street
    • 21st Street between Queens Blvd and 34th Avenue.
  • The monthly maintenance to keep these areas graffiti-free.
  • And a District-wide Graffiti Complaint Hotline and an email service for you to call in or email when you see graffiti, which will be cleaned in seven days or less

As a community it is very important for us to come together in an active campaign to remove the eyesores that destroy the quality-of-life in our neighborhoods. This program will aide us in the fight to clean up our streets. If you see graffiti please let us know, your complaints will be routed to the local clean-up crew to remove the graffiti and are guaranteed a response time of seven days or less. The program will begin tomorrow.

Thank you for your continued support and please spread the word to neighbors and friends. Enjoy the summer and stay cool!

Sincerely,

Jimmy Van Bramer

Council Member, District 26
