PRIMARILY BING

bing_assembly_2010_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgDear Friends:

For the first time since I was elected to the New York State Assembly in November 2002, I face a Democratic Primary. I am asking for your help to make sure that I win that Primary on September 14. Do you have a minute to join the effort?

Despite the challenging nature of serving in elective office at this time, I am proud of my accomplishments on behalf of my East Side constituents. Whether it's Our Town calling me "smart, conscientious and independent" (5/6/10) or the Daily News editorializing that I "stepped up big-time for parents and students." (4/14/10), people are taking notice of my work. During my eight years in office, I have authored 70 bills that have passed the Assembly, 30 of which have also passed the Senate and been signed into law or are on the Governor's desk. In 2010, I am particularly proud to have authored the no-fault divorce law that will finally end New York's notoriety of being the only state in the nation without this option that has markedly reduced domestic violence rates throughout the country. (For more information about my work in education, health care, transportation, government reform, and other areas, please visit www.JonathanBing.com/Record ).

I am proud to have already received the endorsements of a wide range of elected officials that fight for the issues we care about.  They include Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and all my East Side legislative colleagues, along with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer. I have also received the endorsements of organizations that stand for our shared principles, including those protecting women's reproductive health (NARAL Pro-Choice NY and Planned Parenthood of NYC Action Fund), our environment (NY League of Conservation Voters), the rights of the LGBT community (Empire State Pride Agenda, Stonewall and Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Clubs), and workers' rights (32 BJ SEIU, CSEA and many other leaders of organized labor).

But if I am not re-elected, I cannot continue my record of success in Albany and the East Side. Here's how you can help: 1. Volunteer! Fill out our handy online volunteer form here , call my office at 212 628-BING (2464) or e-mail Campaign@JonathanBing.com . You don't even need to live in New York City to volunteer.

2. Contribute! Make a secure contribution online here or visit www.JonathanBing.com . Your donation of $250, $100 or whatever you can contribute will make a difference in the hardest district in New York State in which to reach Democratic primary voters.

3. Ask your Friends to Support Me! If you're not sure whether someone lives in my district, please visit my interactive map of the 73rd Assembly District at  www.JonathanBing.com .

And, most importantly...

4. Vote if you're a Democrat in the 73rd A.D.! If you need any help determining if you are properly registered, or how to secure an absentee ballot, please contact my office at (212) 628-BING (2464) or e-mail Campaign@JonathanBing.com .

I look forward to serving the people of the East Side for years to come, and thank you in advance for your assistance.

Jonathan
