de BLASIO WANTS TO BURN COAL MONEY

public_advocate_logo_de_blasio_nyreblog_com_.jpgDear Friend,

Big Coal is spending big money this fall. Massey Energy, the coal giant responsible for the West Virginia mine explosion that left 29 miners dead this past April, has decided the best way to fend off new safety regulations is to spend money from its corporate treasury to unseat "anti-coal Democrats" in Congress this fall. That makes them Public Advocate de Blasio's  next "Outrage of the Week"-- our way of shining a light on the worst cases of companies distorting our political process under the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling.

According to our new Corporate Spending Tracker , Massey Energy is one of four major American companies that have already decided to use its corporate treasury to influence elections. They've got a lot at stake this November. The energy industry is trying to beat back climate change legislation in Congress, and with this week's revelation of 20 unreported accidents preceding the West Virginia mine explosion, they are facing tougher government oversight ahead.

Don't let Massey buy its way out of providing safe conditions for its workers, or cleaning up its environmental practices. Email Massey , and tell them to spend money on safety, not politics.

We have 76 days until November's election. Let's not let Massey and Big Coal buy their way out of corporate responsibility. Email Massey today.

Thank you,

Matt Wing
