Dear Friend,
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is calling on the City Charter Revision Commission to reject nonpartisan elections, as New York City voters did in 2003. Civil rights leaders and grassroots organizations have agreed with the Public Advocate that nonpartisan elections suppress voter turnout, deny voters critical information about candidates, privilege well-known and wealthy candidates and make it harder for minority candidates to compete in elections.
Tomorrow evening Public Advocate de Blasio will appear on Inside City Hall to debate the proposal to make New York elections nonpartisan in City Charter revision. He will be debating Dick Dadey, the Executive Director of the Citizens Union.
The debate will air at 7:30 p.m. on NY1 - Channel 1 on both Time Warner Cable-New York City (701 for HD) and Cablevision-New York.
Thank you,
Matt Wing
