Statement from Governor David A. Paterson on Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center
April 1, 2010
"Since I first convened a meeting in early February with various St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center (SVCMC) stakeholders, we have been working diligently to find a workable solution for its future. Following this meeting, I created a Task Force that met on February 17, and was comprised of smaller working groups that continued to meet almost daily. In addition, the State has provided two loans, which when combined with support provided by other stakeholders, allowed the hospital and its board to explore all available options for the hospital.
"Over the past two months, all stakeholders have come to the table and have worked to provide assistance for SVCMC in every way they can. Furthermore, I have personally called each of the six potential SVCMC partners to indicate our willingness to work with them in assisting the hospital. I am disappointed that at this point, there does not appear to be a partner for the hospital.
"We will continue to work with the hospital, unions, elected officials, lenders and others until every viable avenue is exhausted. Most importantly, we will continue to ensure the health care needs of the community are met."
