usa_gov_logo_nyreblog_com_.gifNational Park Week is an annual Presidentially proclaimed week for celebration and recognition of national parks . In 2010, the week will be celebrated from April 17 through April 25. National Park Week, a program of the National Park Service (NPS) , is an opportunity to engage families and communities in "America's Great Outdoors," reconnecting them with nature and creating close to home opportunities for people to get outside, be active, and have fun.

To view a list of National Park Week events and volunteer projects , please visit the NPS's website.

In addition, all national parks will have free admission during National Park Week 2010 . Parks will also offer family friendly activities and special offers on tours, lodging, food, and souvenirs. However, the fee free waiver does not include fees collected in advance or by contractors, such as fees charged for camping , reservations  and use of concessions.

National Junior Ranger Day
National Junior Ranger Day will also be celebrated on April 24, 2010, to coincide with National Park Week. The Junior Ranger program is designed to engage children and families in the stories embodied in their national parks. Children complete activity books that lead them through the park in a kid-friendly way. When completed, they present their booklets to a ranger to earn a patch or badge and a certificate.

Children can also learn about different parks , monuments  and historic sites  by visiting the NPS's WebRangers web page .
