WOO SAYS LIU IS "ALMOST THERE"

liu_comptroller_banner_nyreblog_com_.pngDear Friend,

We're just three days away from one of the most important elections this year -- naming the next New York City Comptroller.

According to a WABC-TV/SurveyUSA poll released yesterday, John Liu has pulled ahead of his competitors with 34% of the vote. We're almost there.

We need your continued support -- we need you to knock on doors to urge people to vote on Tuesday, September 15th.

The phone banks are up and Team Liu is pounding the pavements spreading John's message! You, too, can be a part of this historic

campaign: email volunteer@liunewyork.com to Get Out The Vote for John Liu.

We're counting on you to help us surpass the 40% threshold.

Sincerely,

Andy Woo

In a Democratic Primary Election for New York City Comptroller held today, 09/11/09, John Liu finishes first with 34% of the vote, according to this latest exclusive WABC-TV poll conducted by SurveyUSA

-- near, but not at, the 40% trigger that would avoid a September 30 runoff for the top two finishers.

Melinda Katz and David Yassky are bunched together behind Liu: Katz gets 23% today, Yassky 19% -- a slim margin in the battle for the second position on the runoff ballot. David Weprin finishes fourth with 7% of the vote. All four candidates are currently city council members.

Liu today leads by 17 points among men, but is effectively tied with Katz among women.

Liu leads among voters age 18 to 64; Katz and Liu tie among voters 65+.

Among white voters, Yassky, Katz, and Liu run neck-and-neck-and-neck; Liu leads by double digits among black, Hispanic, and Asian voters.

In the Bronx, Katz and Liu tie; in Queens, Liu leads by 6; in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Liu leads by double digits.
