LAPPIN LIKES VANCE & de BLASIO

Tomorrow is Primary Day in New York City.  While I myself do not have a primary, I wanted to share my thoughts on a couple of the more competitive races. I have endorsed Cyrus Vance Jr. for Manhattan DA and Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate. I hope you will strongly consider voting for them tomorrow - September 15th. Since a low voter turnout is expected, every vote will count. Polls are open from 6am to 9pm. Here's a little more information about these two candidates:

Cyrus Vance Jr. for Manhattan District Attorney ( www.cyvanceforda.com )

I endorsed Cy because of his unique combination of experience and vision. Born and raised in Manhattan, he is a former prosecutor and veteran trial lawyer who has spent the last 25 years serving in the courts, his community, and government. He is tough, but fair, and has the right temperament to be our DA. That's why he has been endorsed by The New York Times, Daily News, and the New York Post. When do all three of those papers agree on anything?

He has a strong record on many issues important to me, like fighting sex trafficking and domestic violence - which is why he has earned the support of Gloria Steinem. He also has worked actively to oppose the death penalty and reform the Rockefeller Drug Laws.

On top of his experience and qualifications, I believe he has the best vision for reforming the office. For example, he has vowed to create a division focused on construction safety, which is very important to me. He also has innovative ideas to protect families, reduce gun violence, and tackle the recidivism that endangers our communities. His vision for the office is really quite impressive and I encourage you to go to his website to read his thoughtful proposals.

Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate ( www.billdeblasio.com )

Bill is a friend and colleague. He has served in the New York City Council since 2001 and is the chair of the General Welfare Committee. As a member of his committee, I have seen him work firsthand on issues like increasing access to food stamps, improving public education, and helping the homeless find permanent housing. He has been a passionate advocate for those who often don't have a voice in government. And I know that as Public Advocate, he will use those skills to fight for all New Yorkers.

Prior to serving in the Council, he was Secretary Hillary Clinton's campaign manager in 2000 when she first ran for Senate. Before that, he was the regional director for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition to my endorsement, he has the support of The New York Times, Our Town, Mayor Ed Koch, Governor Mario Cuomo, and other leading Democrats across the city.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.  And no matter who you are voting for, please don't forget to go to the polls tomorrow!

All the best,
Jessica
