The Icla da Silva Foundation was established in June of 1992, as a nonprofit organization under section 501(c) 3 of the IRS Code.
The organization honors the life of a thirteen-year-old Brazilian girl who passed away after bravely fighting leukemia despite all her family's, friends', and neighbors' efforts to find her a matching donor.
Icla's last wishes, enthusiasm, and everlasting hope deeply inspire the Icla da Silva Foundation's programs and activities. In the last 17 years, the Foundation has grown to become one of the largest recruitment organizations for the Be the Match Registry, helping create a more ethnically diverse registry and fostering hope for patients and their families.
The Icla da Silva Foundation's mission is to save lives by recruiting bone marrow donors and by providing support services to children and adults with leukemia and other diseases treatable by marrow transplants.
