GIOIA DELIVERS!

gioia_public_advocate_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgDear Lucas,

New Baby! I wanted to share with you some exciting news - earlier this morning at just past 5:00 am, my wife Lisa and I welcomed our beautiful new daughter! Rosalee Hernandez Gioia weighed 7lbs, 10 ounces, and Mom, Dad, baby and big sister Amelia are all doing great.

I was planning to be at a subway stop this morning, talking with voters today and asking for their support for tomorrow. Plans change though, this time certainly for the better, and I'm taking a little time off the campaign trail to spend time with my family.

But with Election Day less than 24 hours away, I need your help more than ever. Please take a moment to watch:

I'll be back on the campaign trail soon, because this is an important election. Our grassroots campaign for Public Advocate is going up against two longtime political insiders. But with your help, we can beat them - and make sure we have an independent watchdog as Public Advocate.

So please vote tomorrow - and please call or email your friends and family, update your Facebook status, or send out a tweet. Remind every Democrat you know to get out and vote. Together, we can give working people and the middle-class a voice in city government, for a change - and make New York a better place for my family, and yours.

Sincerely,
Eric Gioia

P.S. Please remind your friends and family to vote TOMORROW! Here's a sample email you can use:

Dear _________________,

I want to take a minute to introduce you to my good friend, Democrat Eric Gioia, who is running for New York City Public Advocate. I'm supporting Eric because he has a record of solving problems for New Yorkers, and I know that he'll continue to stand up for regular people and get things done as Public Advocate. I hope you'll join me in voting for Eric on Election Day, this Tuesday, September 15.

Eric grew up in Woodside, Queens, attended public schools and worked his was through NYU working nights as a janitor and doorman. He then attended Georgetown Law School and served in the Clinton White House.

In eight years on the New York City Council, Eric has shown that he understands what real people are going through, and he's delivered real results that make a difference in their lives.

Here are just a few of his accomplishments that most impress me -

  • Eric stood up to predatory lenders and deadbeat landlords, getting rent back for tenants and winning needed repairs
  • He helped save the program that reimburses New York City public school teachers for the money they spend buying school supplies out of their own pockets
  • Eric led the fight to evict sex offenders who were illegally living in city housing
  • He exposed waste and mismanagement at agencies like Con Ed and the MTA
  • Eric sued Exxon to force them to clean up the worst urban oil spill in the country
  • And the Daily News endorsed Eric for having "the courage of his convictions" in challenging corruption in the city budget , and praised him as "the candidate most likely to make a meaningful contribution as Public Advocate."

Eric's been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters and a host of other newspapers, elected officials and community leaders, and his campaign has a grassroots energy fueled by supporters and volunteers in all five boroughs.

To learn more about Eric, please visit www.ericgioia.com . And to find out your polling place, visit http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/pollingplaces.html .

As Public Advocate, Eric will be independent, and he'll get real results. I hope you will join me on Tuesday, September 15 in electing Eric Gioia our next Public Advocate.
