On Thursday, October 22, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and the Borough President's Advisory Committee on Disability Issues will mark National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the 19th anniversary of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act by honoring Brooklyn employers who hire workers with disabilities. Some of the employees with disabilities are also expected to attend.

Fourteen employers, selected from nominations submitted by individuals throughout the borough, will be honored for their commitment to hiring Brooklynites with disabilities. This year's honorees are as varied and diverse as Brooklyn itself:  

  • Arimed Orthotics Prosthetics
  • The Brooklyn Autism Center
  • Comfort Maven
  • The Office of the Kings County Clerk
  • Home Depot
  • The Jewish Association for Senior Alliance
  • The Kings County District Attorney's Office
  • Lackmann Culinary Services at Polytechnic/NYU
  • Loehmann's Department Store
  • McDonald's on Coney Island Avenue in Midwood
  • McDonald's on Atlantic Avenue in East New York
  • Shop Rite on McDonald Avenue in Bay Ridge
  • Stop & Shop on Flatbush Avenue in Flatbush
  • Shorefront YM-YWHA in Brighton Beach
