THOMPSON APPLAUDS LEANDRA'S LAW

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following the statement regarding the New York State Senate's and Assembly's intentions to enact Leandra's Law:

"I applaud the New York State legislature for agreeing to move forward with Leandra's Law - which will make it a felony to drive drunk with a child in the car.

This legislation is vital to prevent children from the perils of drunk driving. The thought of any child being in a car with a driver who is under the influence is simply heartbreaking. As a father, my heart goes out to Lenny Rosado. I have been moved by his advocacy and courage over these past few weeks.

Leandra Rosado's death was tragic, but will not be in vain. I strongly urge the Senate and Assembly to take swift action to pass this bill, and for Governor Paterson to sign it into law."
