The Chamber needs your help to combat a threat to businesses across this city.

Intro No 1059 - Provision of Paid Sick Time Earned by Employees - is a bill being considered in the NYC Council that will mandate businesses to provide paid sick time to each employee whether the employee is permanent, temporary, part-time, or full time.  Businesses with as few as 10 employees will be required to provide nine paid sick days to each employee every year; businesses with fewer than 10 employees must provide a minimum of five paid sick days.

Those businesses found in violation will be subject to $1,000 fine for each infraction.  In addition, should it become law, employees will have the right to sue their employers if they believe their rights under this bill have been denied.

The City Council will hold hearings on Intro 1059 on Tuesday, November 17th at 1PM in council chambers. In addition, Community Board 4 will hold hearings on Thursday, November 19th at 6:30pm.  We will testify at both hearings and need your help. Please help us understand the impact this new law will have on your business.

Following are a few questions that will help shape our testimony on Tuesday.  Please do your best and answer the following questions. If you are unsure of the impact, please give us your best guess. Your input will be a big help in our battle to kill or modify the bill.
