In Alvarado v. City of N.Y ., Lenora Alvarado sued the New York City Police Department after she was attacked while serving as an interpreter for some cops.
Lenora alleged her injuries were the result of the officers' failure to protect her from a domestic violence suspect.
When the Bronx County Supreme Court dismissed her case, Alvarado appealed to the Appellate Division, First Department, which was of the view she had a "special relationship" with the City.
Since Alvarado's services had been specifically requested by the NYPD, the AD1 was of the view there was an "affirmative duty" not to place her in a dangerous situation and her expectation that officers would protect her from harm was justified.
