From the desk of Leslie Crocker Snyder...
Dear Fellow Democrat:
What a difference a few months make. Since announcing my candidacy to be Manhattan's next District Attorney, I have gone from being the only candidate definitely in the race to one of three presenting qualifications to be our top criminal justice official.
While the field may have changed, my plan to share my accomplishments as evidence of my ability to be a truly progressive District Attorney has not. Let others play politics - I am only interested in doing the job in a way that reflects and promotes our shared priorities and values.
I can do the job for two very important reasons: I've been doing the job for over thirty years and, because of that experience, I have a unique vision for moving this important office forward and the credibility to make it happen. I am proud of my many accomplishments: as the first woman in the Manhattan District Attorney's office to try felony and homicide cases; as the founder and head of the first Sex Crimes Prosecution Bureau in the nation; as an Anti-Corruption Prosecutor; as a criminal defense attorney; as the head of New York City's Arson Strike Force; as a Judge for over twenty years; as a proud member of the Board of Kips Bay Boys' and Girls' Club and several other worthwhile community organizations; and as a mother of two grown sons.
Talk is easy; true leadership and follow-through are difficult. My accomplishments as a New York criminal justice professional present me as the only candidate for District Attorney who has the proven leadership to bring about the progressive reforms this important office needs - a "Second Look" Bureau to prevent wrongful convictions; videotaping custodial interrogations by our police; partnering with community leaders, social service agencies and law enforcement; and linking with every public school and housing project to break the cycle of crime before it enters our police precincts and courtrooms. And my record demonstrates that I will keep you safe and protect you and your family from violent predators.
Together we can make this office a model for progressive criminal justice. I look forward to speaking with you soon and can always be reached via e-mail at LSnyder@SnyderforDA.com .
Sincerely,
