"Since becoming NYC Health Commissioner in 2002, Dr. Thomas Frieden has worked closely with my office in efforts to make the City healthier--taking on everything from too much salt in our diets, heart disease, trans fats and smoking to HIV infection, cancer and diabetes. Once again, President Obama has looked to New York City for our best and brightest to help lead all of us into the future and confront pressing issues such as the national health care crisis.
