Dear Friends and Supporters,
I want to ask for you to take a moment and reach out to City Councilmember Christine Quinn to ask that she ensure 'Quiet Zones' in our neighborhood so that tour buses can effectively work without interrupting the quality of life of our residents.
Please see the press release below.
Thank you in advance.

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE YETTA KURLAND CALLS FOR 'QUIET ZONE' FOR BUS TOURS IN THE WEST VILLAGE
New York, NY. July 22, 2009. Yetta Kurland, a candidate for City Council called today for a 'Quiet Zone' on Greenwich Street where Grey Line tour buses have been directed.
"According to reports, as many as 80 tour buses a day travel along this route in the West Village neighborhood with loudspeakers turned on greatly compromising the quality of life of residents along the way." Kurland stated.
"Many residents have complained for some time about the serious problem of noise pollution but so far nothing has been done about it."
"I don't understand why it was possible for Council Member Gerson to get the tour buses to turn off their loudspeakers in the 1st District and why Council Member Quinn is unable to accomplish the same result in the 3rd District."
In addition to the noise pollution, the tour bus exhaust fumes also add to air pollution.
"It especially concerns me that these tour buses now pass nearby the PS 41 schoolyard where some children spend several hour each school day."
"We need to look into all the environmental hazards that these tour buses may pose and find a solution that permits them to operate effectively while at the same time minimizing the amount of harm being done to those in our community."
Kurland is sending out a call for area residents to contact Christine Quinn, who Kurland will be running against in the September 15th Primary, and ask that she ensure that the tour buses enforce a quiet zone when going cross-town through the Village and also ensure that every tour bus has been upgraded to green technology to reduce carbon emissions.
