Dear Lucas,
Do you know how much you're paying for a gallon of milk?
The average family goes through at least a gallon a week, and with experts recommending that children ages 4 to 8 drink up to 3 cups of milk a day, families with young children go through milk even more quickly.
But grocery markets and bodegas are charging vastly different prices for a gallon of milk, potentially costing parents hundreds of dollars a year.
When I heard that milk prices differed so much store by store, and neighborhood by neighborhood, I sent investigators out to track prices all around the city. They found huge variations , with prices per gallon ranging from $2.25 all the way up to $6.00!
To protect consumers, I've called on the State to step up enforcement of price gouging, and to list average prices so consumers can tell when stores are trying to take advantage of them.
You can help too: please fill out a brief survey and let me know how much a gallon of milk costs in your neighborhood. Together, we'll put pressure on stores to keep their prices fair, and keep citizens informed.
How much does milk cost in your neighborhood?

Thanks again. I look forward to working with you together to make New York a better place for the middle class, and all those working to get there.
