2009 LPA National Convention
NYC Press Release
July 2009 will mark the first time in the history that the Little People of America, or LPA will bring their National Convention to the NYC area. Over the last 52 years, this unique organization has put on its weeklong convention in a different host city. From July 4 - 10, 2009,
Conference goers will come from all over the world to join in social, athletic, and medical workshop type events. LPA is an organization and support group for individuals and the families of those individuals who are born with dwarfism. There are over 650,000 little people in the world and they range in height from 2'5" to 4'11". There are over 300 different types of dwarfism that range from genetic conditions, to random gene mutations that occur sporadically in births around the world.
A convention as unique as this one will bring positive awareness to the NYC metro area and will help others understand little people. Education and information is key to the growth and success of the organization. LPA wants others to know that short statured people can achieve, succeed, and participate in most everything that average size people do, they just might get the end goal a little differently. The more people they can reach regarding their place in the community, the better.
