Dear Friends,
Over a six-week period this summer, more than 125,000 New Yorkers put down their address and signed their name to support our campaign and put Bill on the ballot. Now their democratic choice is in jeopardy because of New York City's notoriously arcane election laws.
A typo should never kick anyone off the ballot, especially a candidate who has the support of hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers across all five boroughs.
As the New York Times wrote in an editorial today unequivocally supporting Bill's right to be on the ballot, "The treatment of Mr. de Blasio, who is expected to appeal, is a reminder of how easy it is to squeeze out the competition in New York elections."
In just the past 24 hours, we have heard from many of you who also believe New York City elections should be about choice, not bureaucracy. Now more than ever we are counting on your help to restore fairness to our democracy and support our efforts in court. Please make a contribution today to our legal fund so we can fight to get Bill back on the ballot.
We are extremely proud to have your support, and we will continue to update you on campaign news and activities in the coming days.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Our campaign truly depends on friends like you.
