WHY WASN'T IT UNCONSTITUTIONAL?

Here's a statement just released by New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson on the whole term limits controversy: Thompson_NYC_Comptroller_nyreblog_com_.JPG

THOMPSON STATEMENT ON TERM LIMITS RULING

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement concerning today's term limits ruling:

"The court's decision today is certainly disappointing in upholding the notion that the Mayor and a majority of the City Council acting solely in their own self-interest can overturn the will of the people. Twice, New Yorkers have voiced their opinion on term limits. However, with a stroke of the pen, Mayor Bloomberg silenced that voice in November.

While I strongly disagree with today's decision, I can rest assured that I was on the right side - the side of the people. I am proud to have stood alongside my colleagues in government and average New Yorkers to object to this hijacking of democracy. We are reviewing but fully expect to appeal this decision."
