BROOKLYN OWNS SHAUN DONOVAN?

Here's the text of announcement we just received from Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz's office:

I couldn't be more proud that Boerum Hill, Brooklyn's own Shaun Donovan has been confirmed by the Senate as the new Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Secretary Donovan has been a model of innovative leadership and has truly made his mark in Brooklyn and New York City, working with Mayor Bloomberg as Housing Preservation and Development Commissioner to create the kind of housing opportunities that allow New York to preserve its essential character and remain home to those of every income level. The City's ambitious plan to create 165,000 new affordable housing units by 2013--aggressively spearheaded by Secretary Donovan--has come at a critical time, when the threat of Americans losing their homes is greater than ever.

This experience makes him the perfect choice to work with President Obama to build and preserve essential affordable housing and reinvigorate HUD, which now more than ever requires a leader who understands that our great urban centers--our cities, especially our "National City," NYC--must occupy a place at the vanguard of America's economic recovery.
