Here's the text of an announcement we received late last night:

Dear Friends,

I would like to share some very exciting news with you. Today, I received the endorsement of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) Political Action Committee APAC for my candidacy for Public Advocate in 2009.

ACORN and I have worked together on a number of vital issues for New York City. We fought long and hard to combat landlord discrimination against Section 8 and other government subsidy holders - a fight that resulted in the enactment of a law last spring outlawing this blatant form of discrimination. We have also stood together in the continuing battle to secure better wages for home-based child care workers, and to protect the city's child care system from drastic cuts to services and centers. ACORN is truly committed to realizing more affordable housing throughout our City, and we have worked together to make this a developmental priority and to reform the City's 421a program.

I am extremely proud to receive APAC's endorsement today. From its membership to its organizing philosophy to the issues, ACORN truly and ably represents New York City. I am excited to have them on my team, and I look forward to continuing our work together to fight for and deliver real gains for all New Yorkers.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Bill de Blasio
