WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE A LAWYER?

Here's the text of an e-mail we received from the American Bar Association :

aba_logo_nyreblog_com_.gifDo you remember when you were in law school, all the anxiety you felt about your future career. Law students still experience that jittery feeling and with today's economic downturn that is affecting both Wall Street and Main Street, they are also anxious to learn the scope of the legal profession and how the economy will affect their prospects for finding employment once they graduate. Now more than ever, law students have told us that they want to meet and hear from practicing lawyers about how to best manage their legal education and plan for their future careers.

To meet these needs, the ABA Law Student Division hopes that you can help us by volunteering to be a speaker on Saturday, February 21, 2009 during the 2nd Circuit Spring Meeting at New York Law School:

This year, the 2nd Circuit Spring Meetings will feature Lunch with Experience, a session that pairs law students with attorneys in small group roundtables to openly discuss the practice of law and what to expect once they graduate. We also have openings for an interactive panel entitled, Leadership in the Legal Profession. Lastly, we are seeking volunteer attorneys to participate in a Town Hall Meeting/Debate designed to address the scope of the profession and the challenges facing today's law students and recent graduates. As a volunteer speaker, participating in one or more of these sessions will provide an opportunity for you to help shape the careers and futures of these students and the profession.

If you are willing to share your professional experiences with law students from throughout the state of New York for an hour or so on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at New York Law School, please complete the Speaker Volunteer Form at www.abanet.org/spring/2009/speakers/ and join us for the ABA Law Student Division 2nd Circuit Spring Meeting.

We appreciate your willingness to participate in the upcoming ABA Law Student Division 2nd Circuit Spring Meeting and for your support of the ABA Law Student Division. If you cannot participate, but know of a colleague who may be interested, we hope you will forward this email along to them.
