Here's a guest post from our friend -- Gines Pasamonte:
Faced with placating the sign fetishes of a plethora of candidates in today's special election, enterprising store owners in the 32nd Council District have come up with an innovative solution: Put up campaign posters for all the candidates.
Why offend any customer? Hell, if the politicos want to throw some money around, why not in my store?
Store display windows throughout Southwest Queens are awash in color advertising the ever-changing cast of candidates to fill the seat made vacant by Joseph Addabo's election to the State Senate.
After a bloodbath at the Board of Elections struck the putative front-runner off the ballot, the remaining candidates all think the seat is fair game and have invaded each other's turf. So fun and games today and surely lots more come primary time.
The stricken candidates vow to be back for another round, as, most likely, will some of today's losers. Republicans will have to reveal themselves and may actually have their own primary. When was the last time you saw one of those?
No one is annointed into political office in this neck of the woods -- you have to be the last one standing after a donnybrook.
Happy Special Election Day to all!
