The New York City Bar's Entertainment Committee will hold its 48th biennial Twelfth Night on Friday evening, January 8, 2010, featuring an hour-long musical comedy honoring (and roasting) one of New York's leading litigators, Evan A. Davis, a partner at Cleary Gottlieb and former president of the City Bar. The event includes a party followed by an hour-long original musical comedy entitled, "It's Heaven With Evan."
Twelfth Night, which has been a tradition at the City Bar for 50 years, will be presented by a cast of about 25 lawyers and judges, performing songs with titles such as "I've Got Evan," to the tune of Irving Berlin's "Cheek to Cheek."
At the conclusion of the roast, Mr. Davis will be defended by Bernard Nussbaum, who has been chosen to serve as "Master of Revels." Mr. Davis himself will then have an opportunity to speak in his own defense.
Past Twelfth Night honorees have included Governors (Mario Cuomo), Mayors (John Lindsay), Judges of the Court of Appeals (Judith Kaye, Jonathan Lippman, Carmen Ciparick), a Justice of the Supreme Court (Antonin Scalia), Appellate Division Justices (Betty Weinberg Ellerin), and Law School Deans (John Feerick), to name a few.
The event, held at the House of the Association, 42 West 44th Street, begins with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 7:00 p.m., followed by the show at 8:00 p.m.
Tickets are $75 ($55 for court personnel), and may be purchased online www.abcny.org or by mailing a check payable to New York City Bar, Att: Meeting Services, 42 West 44th Street, NYC 10036.
