BE A HERO IN 2010

Each year the City Bar Justice Center helps over 25,000 vulnerable New Yorkers with free legal assistance and information. The Justice Center's accomplishments this past year were possible because of the generous support of the legal community. In 2009, the City Bar Justice Center:

  • Trained approximately 1,000 pro bono attorneys;
  • Issued a landmark report on the lack of counsel for detainees at the Varick Federal Detention Facility in downtown Manhattan. The report, featured last month in a front page article in the New York Times, is complemented by a City Bar Immigration and Naturalization Committee report calling for a right to counsel in detention proceedings;
  • Operated the largest pro bono foreclosure project in New York City;
  • Conducted more than 75 free legal clinics in New York City homeless shelters.

As the recession's effects on the unemployed, the poor and the homeless continue to hit hard, the demand for our services is greater than ever. We need your help to make it happen again in 2010!

If you have already made a contribution to support the City Bar Justice Center - Thank you!
If not, please help support the important services our probono programs offer by donating online or by mailing a check payable to City Bar Justice Center to 42 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036.

With best wishes for you and your family during the holiday season and New Year,

Patricia M. Hynes
