Reflections from our 2009 Fellows:
Kwadwo Acheampong, Sales & Trading Program Manager at Sponsors for Educational Opporunity "As the credit crisis picked up steam in 2009, I lost my private sector job and was unsure of the next step. Facing a career crossroad at any point in one's career is difficult, but I was able to facilitate change in my life with support from other Fellows and with the tools learned from the Fellowship's curriculum. Leadership development workshops such as "Building Your Base" and "Fundraising 101" enabled my Fellows class to raise money for non-profits and to motivate others to do the same. I can honestly say that I am a more effective person than before the Fellowship's start because I am integrated in so many different parts of New York City life. If you desire to lead and to give back on a larger scale, then this is the fellowship for you." Angela Fernandez, Executive Director of Nothern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights
"The CUP Fellows program provided me a safe, supportive and encouraging space to learn about the skills one needs to develop to run a successful political campaign. As an individual who has spent most of her career in the non-profit sector, I am very grateful to my colleagues in the Capital Access group for teaching me more than I will ever know about evergreen funds, venture capital and minority-owned businesses."
PJ Kim
"The workshops and feedback sessions with experts and the fellows were a safe environment to practice public speaking, explore ideas, and examine potential role models in public life. These sorts of practical opportunities are extremely rare. "
